Our guardian families help us ensure that our Dogwood mamas are happy and socialized while receiving a mini aussiedoodle puppy at no cost.

Here at Dogwood, we believe every dog is a family member that deserves attention, love and care. We also recognize that if we were to own all the mama and papa dogs that participate in our program, our canine family would be larger than we could adequately pamper. For this reason, we place our Dogwood Mamas with forever Guardian families starting at eight weeks old who dote upon them, and we only work with papas who come from breeders with similar values.

But what is a Guardian Family? A Guardian Family is a family who adopts one of our pups who have been pre-selected to participate in our breeding program. The family agrees to meet certain health and care standards, and breeding commitments, including vet appointments and sessions with studs, in return for their wonderful fluffy family member. Approximately a week before their dog gives birth, the dog would come stay with us and would remain here until the puppies are weaned, generally at eight weeks. To make sure that their dog feels at ease, we require that all guardian dogs visit us periodically before birth. This maintains their relationship with us and the surroundings here. All mama dogs are limited to no more than three litters. Each dog enter their second heat cycle at the earliest before mating, and must wait through a full heat cycle after weaning a litter before mating again. Once a mama is done, either because she has had three litters or because the vet has determined that it’s in her best interest to stop, she is retired to her Guardian Family forever more.
